Thousand Islands
The Thousand Islands offer some of the most scenic, unspoiled areas in North America. Clean water and clean air in the 1,800 islands is a treasure to be protected. According to Algonquian tribal legend, Manitou, the Great Spirit, said to the Indians: "I will give you paradise, if you will stop fighting." The Indians did not stop fighting. Manitou put paradise into a bag and threw it to the horizon. The bag broke apart and a thousand pieces fell down on to the St. Lawrence River, creating the Thousand Islands
